@MartinJJ honestly, North Caucasus is specific and not really Russia. I highly doubt it would be the same in central regions.

@DigitalOffgrider totally agree. But "international observers" (oh god) can maximum make a ground for several BBC newlines, to tear Western public a little. They did fantastic in Rwanda.

@DigitalOffgrider international observers are usually very efficient, right.

@safiuddinkhan everything you have to emulate with age old window manager comes out of the box with gnome.

After 7 years of using \LaTeX, it takes painfully forever to draft few simple equations with MS Word. And it supposes to recognise LaTeX syntax now (does it really?..)

I was up to my knees with the new job and move to Stockholm, thus did not follow the recent shitstorms. Jesus, people in tech community are as crazy as in mainstream media.

So I got Dell 7210 at work, which is basically a tablet with a keyboard plus Windows 10 on board... and the touchscreen fits! I have been swearing for the first week, and then noticed how I am inclined to touch the screen of my x260 at home. I am not that skeptical towards touchscreens anymore.

@sturginho I will actually update on my experience. It is... Good? But I basically run the required set of programs and all files they manipulate inside wsl2 file system and never even cd to Windows partition. Tho, shuttling files back and forth (and to NFS) takes lot of time, but they are 15-20 Gb each and come in packs of 10 to 20.

@10leej @derek you are not talking about the SWORD project, are you.

@Senkudou @jmw150 lenovo thinkpads are still very good laptops and probably best value on market (we are talking about x and the t series only, of course). The screen sucks tho, but not as bad as it was 5 years ago. But people will always state how literally 10 years ago the sun was brighter.

I have started working in an enviroment where there are no academic subscriptions, and most certainly no SciHub or anything that could be even remotely associated with unclear access to papers (very big no no). I should say that my opinion about open access is changing very fast.

@sturginho no, but maybe VcXsrv can handle it. I am using it for few crucial GUI apps.

@sturginho it is fantastic. Also, I have to run quite some Linux native software and it works really well. WSL2 is something to look at also.
