@derek I'm surprised there isn't a system monitor like htop inside emacs.

Not exactly what you mentioned, but I did see this package posted on the Emacs subreddit yesterday which gives you a banner with your system information in it every time you open Eshell:


@derek vtop is another option, but is relatively minimalist and low-fat version of htop -- github.com/MrRio/vtop
