PeerTube, the Fediverse's own alternative to YouTube, uses peer-to-peer technology to allow anyone to host their own video service without a data centre.
It received a major update today which includes support for live streaming 🎉
You can run your own PeerTube instance without technical knowledge by using a managed hosting provider such as Spacebear: https://app.spacebear.ee
I was wondering that the overlying experience on a web browser for an average users has not changed much since the 2010s but even though we have fully embraced html5 and got rid of flash player and jre the memory and cpu usage of the modern web browsers have gone worse rather than improving. A modern web browser is the most power hungry everyday app we use on our computers. There is fundamentally something very wrong with the modern web in my opinion.
