I didn't realize how useful Nextcloud was going to be when I set it up. Today I freed my bookmarks from the Firefox sync provided by having an account. So, no more account, and I can have my bookmarks on any browser running on any computer I pick up from the pile I have.

Fixed up this 2015 Macbook Pro 13" that I got for free. It is now the most modern computer I own. I usually run Debian Testing and Gnome. After seeing DT's video on Garuda, I figured I give it a try. Sure is pretty!!!

Great content over on the Destination Linux Network. I only found them recently and feel like I missed a lot. If you never heard of them, give a listen.

- More people have signed the letter in support of Stallman than have signed that hateful letter calling for his resignation. Check out this link:

Playing with i3 and wondering what is the best way to handle audio. I can volume up / down by finding the sink and sending the appropriate command to Pulse, but I'm not sure what happens if I plug headphones in. I guess I'll find out, but how are you guys handling audio?

Where can I get help administering a Mastodon instance. Mine is up and running, email works, people are registering and I like it. However, I wanted to put some links on the sign up page. Can't for the life of me figure that out? How do I add an about page? Where do I get a little guidance for running an instance?

i3 question. Say you have two terminals opened, split horizontally. Then you decide that you want split them vertically without closing them. Is this possible?

I really enjoyed OS/2 back in the day. Especially the Workplace Shell. You could make ANYTHING a template, the tear them off at will. Good stuff!

This is getting bad. I even get my weather info from the command line now. curl wttr.in

After watching DT''s "Siduction" video I was wondering if anyone runs Debian Testing. I run testing and things hardly ever break. I would think that for the sake of a being a month or so ahead that it's not worth running Sid over what is probably a more stable Testing. What do you guys think? Is it worth running Sid as a daily?

@dammn πŸ˜ƒ I haven't. But I get it. This is his instance and he wants it to be drama-free. I think it's really nice to have a place to talk geek without the political/social drama. I like it.

This is so true! It is one of my favorite pictures out of the book "How to Keep Your Volkswagen Alive." I guess leasing and 7 year loans have put an end to this for many people.

Set up a mail server and a Mastodon instance on Linode. Never did anything like this before, and I'd be embarrassed to say how long it took! postfix, dovecot, dkim, certbot, docker... never heard of that stuff till now. But it all works!!!

Stallman was right. Got rid of my Mac two years ago, and a few days ago I got a Pixel 4a and installed KalyxOS. Finally got rid of the spy devices. Wanted a Linux phone, but you know.
